Kohler engines is headquartered in Kohler, Wisconsin, with a manufacturing facility in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Kohler engines was founded in 1920, and began by making an automatic 1500-watt generator that was powered with a 4 cycle, water cooled gasoline engine. Kohler engines have ranged from K series, single cylinder 5 horsepower (HP) to liquid cooled Aegis engines, offering 31 horsepower (HP). Kohler engines manufactured diesel engines for different equipment for the US Navy during the 1940's. They began making 2 cycle engines for the snow industry in the 1960's. Twin cylinder Series II models were introduced in the 1980's. Magnum engines, with electronic ignition and improved air filtration systems were introduced in 1984. Kohler Command engines were released in 1987, with Command twin cylinders being released in 1991. Kohler Aegis, liquid cooled, 31 HP engines were introduced in 1999. The Courage engine was released in 2002, offering inverted crankcase for leak-proof operation, dual camshaft for cooling, ported power intake for better combustion and power and cross flow cylinder heads for greater air flow and cooler operation.
